Subscribe to Celcom3G and get a 'free' HP Notebook

Celcom (Malaysia) Bhd entered into a partnership with leading-edge technology solutions provider Hewlett- Packard (M) Sdn Bhd.
Through the partnership, the two have offi cially unveiled a unique notebook and 3G service promotion.

For only RM190 a month, users will be able to take home a HP Compaq nx6310 notebook, mid-range mobile workstation that offers users a compelling mobile computing solution.

“We always believe in partnering local partners, and this joint-initiative with Celcom underlines our goal of providing well-integrated products, services and solutions. Users can now pay a very affordable sum every month and enjoy using a cuttingedge HP notebook that is connected wirelessly via Celcom, the provider of Malaysia’s widest 3G network coverage,” said Hewlett-Packard (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd country general manager for personal systems group Danny Lee.

Commenting on the strategic partnership, Celcom Malaysia Bhd’s chief executive offi cer Datuk Shazalli Ramly revealed, “This unprecedented strategic alliance is set to strengthen both Celcom and HP’s market position and revenue through voice and data usage for Celcom and upgrades and accessory sales for HP.

During our previous alliance with Citibank, I mentioned that Celcom will be concentrating on revenue derived from data usage.

This alliance with HP is just the tip of the iceberg of what we have in store for Celcom customers.

Subscribers of the Celcom HP 3G Bundling Package programme need only pay RM190 per month for 24 installments.

They will take home a fully-featured HP Compaq nx6310 notebook, a Celcom 3G data card as well as a full subscription to the Celcom 3G service, which now offers download speeds of up to 2Mbps (megabits per second).

The programme is available via a Zero- Per Cent interest installment plan for selected credit cards.

The entire bundle is worth RM4,560, which saves you up to RM2,318 off the full value of RM6,878.

With Celcom 3G already covering selected major urban centres of Malaysia, subscribers of the programme can now use HP to experience Malaysia’s widest 3G coverage.

The service provider’s network coverage will be expanded to serve more areas in future.

In order to own a cutting-edge HP notebook as well as sign up for a highspeed and always-on 3G service, users can sign up for the programme at the nearest HP resellers, Celcom branches, TM points and even at the Celcom key dealers.

3g As Festive Gift

3G as Festive Gift

The time year is here again, Christmas, New Year and Chinese New Year.

The big shopping is on for the perfect gift for love one and the appreciated one. The list of gift ideas is endless, where do you start. Most Internet or seasoned shoppers will tell you to make a list of the people that you plan to make the gift to and then decided what to buy as the present to them.

A out of the usual suggestion, is the give them a 3G connection. The down side to this is of course without a 3G phone the gift will not give the impact as a perfect present. Best to check your list again to see if there are anyone on the gift list that has a 3G phone but have yet to sign up for a 3G sim connection.

If this gift is to someone special or that really deserve this gift then cost will not be a concern.

However this gift idea will not burn a hole in your wallet/purse or make a dent to your shopping budget if this is being fine-tune. Say check out your local Telco for 3G packages that include a sign up program that include the 3G connections and a 3G phone.

As mention in this blog, the versatility of the 3G connections is limited to only one’s imagination.

Let’s site a family gathering on one of the above festive celebration. A or some family members that can’t make it home on this occasion. And you give a 3G phone with the full package as a gift to you mother, she open’s it and you help her make a video call to the family members that were not able to be at the celebration.

Imagine the happiness and joy that it will bring, not only being able to hear their voice but also see all the family members as if they were there that the dinner. ‘PRICELESS’

Try this as a new gift idea in using the available technology as the perfect festive gift.

Using 3G to connect to Internet

First you will need the hard ware.

1. 3G Mobile Phone (look at the 3G phone list on this blog)

2. 3G DATA Card.

Mobile phone as Modem

Connecting your 3G phones to your computer or laptop via Bluetooth, USB, serial cable or infrared will allow the phone to act as a modem.

It is only pairing the phone to your computer using the above method, as simple as that and you are online. Make sure the setting on the phone are correct to the network your are on.

Data Card.

Most laptops have a card slot that accept PC card. Slot the card with a 3G-sim card on to your laptop. Install the PC card software and check on the right setting.

The Data Card modem provides the highest transfer rates and the easiest to setup. It allows you to use your phone even while you are still online.

What ever the transfer rates are it all boil down to the network. How congested the network is at the time of us.

What is Celcom 3G?

Celcom 3G offer the following experience on their network.

1. Experience face to face conversation. AKA Video call. (You will need to learn to hold the phone facing you. Believe me it a weird experience the first time you try this)

2. High speed access to the internet. Yes especially on the move where you not 'tide down' to cables or limited range of WIFI.

3. Watch blockbuster movies and live TV. The streaming rate in theory says it is possible but still not there yet but it's still watch-able.

4. Listen to breaking news. Like CNN, CNBC and the affiliated news agency.

5. Play innovative 3D JAVA games. Yeah now we're talking. You can play 'real' games on mobile phone and we can challenge other on the net.

6. Read up financial news. Yah, same as no.4.

7. Download & Listen to your favorite hit songs. Works well when you are streaming but make sure you don't steal.

8. Catch sports updates as-they happen. I watch the live time up date of a F1 race on my phone and watch the race life on TV. Nothing like seeing the car races and knowing the lap time of all the other cars. Especially during pit stop.

9. Tickle your funny bone with animated comic strip.

10. Keep tab in your calories intake. Yah make sure you don't starve while on 3G.

11. Have a virtual experience on your pregnancy. Well not sure what is this but lady's comment.

In a nut shell you are able to do a lot of thing that you would normally do on the computer while on the internet, but with 3G you have the freedom of excessing the internet while on the go without loosing the speed to surf the net.

So for those that have not experience 3G please check it out. It is putting the POWER in your hand.
